Remote Work

Although it seems like the remote working days are gone, there are still thousands of companies that want to hire the best talent wherever they are even if the company does not have an office in that city.

Remote work is great. I’ve been doing it since 2020 but it definitely has its drawbacks.

One drawback is that you may feel like you’re on an island with no support system. You are at home alone in your office and it can feel intimidating to message someone on your team with a question. In the pre-pandemic days you would simply tap on the shoulder of a colleague and ask if they have a few minutes for a question.

Another drawback is that it’s all so impersonal especially if you are not on video. It’s like internet culture. You become less friendly because you’re just typing to your colleagues instead of looking at them face to face when you’re interacting.

There are many benefits of being remote like access to opportunities that may not have been possible before.

Ultimately if you are new to the workforce, I’d recommend getting a job in person to develop those in person skills but if you’ve been in the workforce a while and have a specialized skill or two that can be done remotely, remote work can unlock opportunities you’ve never had before.
