Colorado Department of Labor & Employment Releases Latest Report

February was a bit of a mixed bag for our local job market. The state of Colorado lost 8,900 nonfarm payroll jobs last month, but the unemployment rate stayed put at 4.7%. That said, the number of unemployed Coloradans ticked up by 2,500, bringing the total to 155,300. Meanwhile, the national unemployment rate inched up to 4.1%.

So, what exactly are “nonfarm payroll” jobs? This refers to jobs in most industries, excluding farm work, government employees, private households, and nonprofit workers. It’s one of the key indicators of job growth and economic health.

Colorado’s labor force also shrank slightly, down by 1,400 to 3,283,100. While it’s never great to see job losses, the fact that unemployment isn’t climbing could mean the market is holding steady overall. As we move forward, it’ll be interesting to see how hiring trends and wages shift in response to economic conditions.

LinkedIn is a great place to connect with coworkers, explore job opportunities, and doom scroll as you would on any other social media. In fact, we’re even on LinkedIn so feel free to give us a follow!

But if you’re using LinkedIn for career advice, it’s worth asking: What’s the motivation behind the person sharing it? Are they trying to sell you a course? Pitch their services? Everyone has a motive and some more genuine than others.

LinkedIn can be a fantastic tool, but always be mindful of why someone is posting. If you’re unsure, take a closer look at their profile as it might give you a better idea of their true intentions.
