Don’t just apply to jobs cold, try to network!

In a job market like the one we are in, submitting an online application will not make you memorable. With thousands of applicants per job, you need a way to be unique. One of the best ways to stand out is to reach out directly to someone at the company—ideally on the team you’re applying to or in a related department. It shows initiative, interest, and makes you more than just a name in an applicant tracking system.

LinkedIn is a great place to do this. A short, respectful LinkedIn message can go a long way. Here’s a template you can adjust and use as needed:

Hi [First Name],

I came across your profile while researching [Company Name] and saw you work on the [Team Name] team. I just applied for the [Job Title] role and wanted to reach out and say how excited I am about the opportunity. I'd love to learn more about your experience at [Company] and what you enjoy most about working there.
