We all want our kids to have a better life than we did. A stable household, a loving family, and a good education go a long way in making that happen.

I’m not really qualified to tell you how to run your house or love your kids but I’m positive you’re doing a great job. What I can tell you is how to set up your kids with a way to pay for college.

You may have heard of a 529 plan. Every state has one.

Colorado has a plan which you can access here.

It’s pretty simple - you earn money at your job and you get paid (once taxes are taken out). Once you have the cash in your account, you take it and contribute to a 529 plan. The 529 plan saves you some on state taxes for the year the contribution was made in.

You can invest the money and earn interest. You don’t pay taxes as long as it remains invested.

As long as the money is withdrawn for college or other expenses, you don’t pay taxes. Here’s a bit more information on that.
